Remember the new Local, IDD, SMS service provider in Singapore: Hoiio.com that I mentioned to you previously? Lynn strongly recommends me to use the mobile application that install in your handset. At first I am quite reluctant, but after watching this below, I give it a try. So lets look at the video first....

Very simple right? But if you want to know more details on the procedures, the following videos will give you a more detailed step-by-step guide (pretty long....)

For 2nd part refer to http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=027DBB90AA5DD5EA

So now using this software in your mobile phone, making a call using Hoiio.com is as simple as making a call from your mobile phone. In fact, I use it quite often now, using web based to send SMS (easy to use keyboard type), and this software to make IDD call.

Previously I have compared the rate of different IDD services in Singapore. Here, there is a new service provider: Hoiio.com.

They provide the following services:
- Local and International Call
- Internationa sms at 8.8 cents
- Budget Roaming at subscription fee of S$5 per month

Their services is particular useful if you have a free incoming call service plan. For the local call, what they do is that, you key in your friend number, then they will call you and connect you to your friend. By doing so, you will not be charged for the local air time (if your mobile plan is incoming free), and you only need to pay Hoiio, which is 3.8 cents / min for local call.

For IDD as an example, if you want to call your friend oversea, say in Malaysia:

1) I use 1516, I will be charged: 0.10 + local air time (or 0.05 + local air time if off peak).

2) I use Haiio service, I will be charged: 0.10 (NO local air time changes), as they will call to me, and that will be free if I got free incoming call.

Since they will call back to you, so you save the call back charges. Some more their IDD rate is not expensive. In addition, as a new user:

- I have also received a S$1 Free Credit.
- I have 30 free invites left, and I can get 1 bonus credit for each successful invite.

So no harm to try it out, see the figure below, that is my transactions record, basically I have make a free 4 minutes call to Malaysia by using the free credit provided by them. It is FREE to try, and if you think the quality is good, then can pay and get more credit. For the call I made, the quality is GOOD, CLEAR, NO DELAY.

You can make payment with Visa, Master, Nets, and even PayPal!

Check out how to use the mobile software installed in your handphone.

So for the month when my local minutes run out, I would greatly consider this as an alternative to make oversea and local call. And I will definitely use this for Global SMS.

There are so many IDD services in Singapore, besides the 001 and 019 from Singtel, 008 and 018 from Starhub, 002 and 021 from M1, there are also other operators like 1511, 1521, 1516 .... There are different rate at different hour (peak and off peak), different rate for mobile etc... so messy. Finally, I spend half an hour to make a study, and here is my conclusion based on Malaysia, Hong Kong, and USA.

The price is indicated as peak hour rate / off peak rate. When no mention mobile, then it means is fixed line. For USA, usually fixed line and mobile have the same usage charge. If still not clear, then means their website is not clear to me.

1521 Sunpage
Offpeak: Sat 2pm to 9pm, Sun 8am to 9pm

Malaysia: 0.15 / 0.075
Hong Kong: 0.14 / 0.07
USA: 0.14 / 0.07

1516 Pheonix
Offpeak: 6pm to 8am daily

Malaysia: 0.10 / 0.05
Hong Kong: 0.10
USA: 0.10 / 0.05
Malaysia mobile: 0.15 (offpeak rate same)
Hong Kong mobile: 0.10 (offpeak rate same)

018 Starhub

Malaysia: 0.18
Hong Kong: 0.28
USA: 0.10

019 Singtel
All day flat rate

Malaysia: 0.13
Hong Kong: 0.23
USA: 0.15
Malaysia mobile: 0.16
Hong Kong mobile: 0.26

Conclusions: 1516 appears to be cheapest and longer off peak hour. And I am satisfy with its quality. I exclude the 1511 in my search, because its rate is kind of messy and I am not so satisfy with their quality sometime. The above are just my comment and experience. I get no money from them. And the information are accurate based on the time I search.
